There is a kind of portrait I have always come back to.

Not the overly styled kind.

Not the kind with distractions and noise and too much added.

Not the kind where the child disappears behind the outfit, the bow, the backdrop, or the performance.

The portraits I love most are the ones that let the child remain at the center of it all.

Their eyes.

Their hands.

Their expression.

Their softness.

Their little features.

Their quiet presence.

The details you can never quite explain, but you know in your heart you never want to forget.

That is where Soul Sessions began.

Soul Sessions are stripped-down, emotionally rich portraits created to remove every distraction and preserve what matters most.

They are simple on purpose.

Simple clothing.

Soft light.

Minimal styling.

A quiet, artful approach that allows the person in front of the camera to become the portrait.

For children, that means no busy outfits, no oversized bows, no bright colors pulling the eye away, and no forced performance. Just the child, as they are right now, in this fleeting season of life.

And that is what makes them so powerful.

Because childhood does not need to be dressed up to be beautiful.

It already is.

Why I created Soul Sessions

After photographing children for more than two decades, I have found that the images that stay with me most are often the simplest ones.

The ones where a child’s hand is wrapped around a favorite toy.

The way the hair falls across the forehead.

The softness still left in their baby cheeks.

The expression that appears only for a second.

The look in their eyes when they are simply allowed to be.

Soul Sessions are my way of honoring that.

They are portraits created not just to show what your child looks like, but to hold onto something deeper about who they are.

Who they are at this age.

What they love.

How they move.

How they hold things.

How they look at the world.

These sessions are about remembering more than a face.

They are about remembering a season.

What makes a Soul Session different?

A Soul Session is designed to be simple, intentional, and meaningful.

Each session is photographed with soft, beautiful light and guided by a minimal, refined styling approach so the focus remains where it belongs: on the person being photographed.

For children, I encourage clothing that is soft, neutral, and distraction-free — whites, creams, ivories, soft grays, oatmeal tones, or other muted shades that let the face and expression come forward.

I also encourage families to bring one simple, meaningful item if they would like — a favorite toy, book, blanket, drawing, flower, or small keepsake. Something that quietly represents what their child loves at this age.

Not as a prop.

Not as a performance.

But as a small part of their story.

Sometimes those are the details that mean the most later.

Why book a Soul Session?

Because childhood changes quickly.

Because the little things are never as little as they seem.

Because one day the toy they carry everywhere will be forgotten in a closet.

The baby softness will give way to a more grown-up face.

The hands will get bigger.

The expressions will change.

The season will pass.

Soul Sessions are a way of pausing all of that for just a moment.

They are for the parent who wants something more emotional than a traditional portrait.

For the one who loves simplicity.

For the one who wants artwork that feels timeless and deeply personal.

For the one who wants to remember not just how their child looked, but who they were.

These sessions are also beautiful because they translate so naturally into tangible artwork — the kind of portraits that are meant to be held, displayed, and lived with every day.

Imagine having in your hands a print of the season you never want to forget.

That is the heart behind all of this.
